- it can be a race of the industry - which company will be the first to discover new ways to decrease energy consumption (a patent on something like that would be worth alot)
- it is costly to produce waste. i think of how much energy I will save (and money) by living in an eco-friendly apartment. this is even more crucial for large operations, with super large energy bills.
- cities are more likely to operate on an optimal energy saving level - good public transit is more sustainable, things are closer together to increase walkability and decrease driving.
- people will spend more on something that will be more efficient and save them money in the long run (think of those energy saving coil lightbulbs - they are worth it)

inconvenient truth
I am going to try to see Al Gore's documentary: An Inconvenient Truth , tomorrow at Cumberland theatre. I read an article in Eye Weekly on the film today at a coffee shop. The only criticism of the film was that it pointed out the climate crisis we are heading towards, but did not inform people on how we can correct our fossil fuel burning behavior. Last month I read an article in Wired on the climate crisis (Al Gore/environment was the feature story) - which did a good job of giving some hope and at least created a sustainable vision for the future.
